His Royal Highness sought the advice of Lady Salisbury, who was an experienced organic gardener, friend, and was well-known for her work at Cranbourne and at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. She and The Prince laid out parts of the garden with scented plants. Wisteria, Honeysuckle, Jasmine, Holboellia, Lilies and Thyme were selected to surround the house.

She designed the Fan Rose Garden and on the advice of her friend and garden designer, Norah Lindsey, she planted the double herbaceous border. The Long Border on the south-west of the walled kitchen garden was also designed by Norah (NHLE entry).

from the expropriated, soon to be demolished Royal City Nursery:
9 clumps of these
probably ‘Pardon me’
1 of these:
unknown white coneflower
enough of this to make equivalent of 6 x 4″ pots
fern leaf yarrow
and the big score, almost a square meter of:
P.virgatum, like ”heavy metal”’ but with slightly red seedheads and occasional red blade
Will be divided into two groups of three, and backlit by garage lights.
Still 2 very robust-looking sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ there.
Bu-bye to North Sea Oat Grass and Hawkweed— native, but prolific self-seeders. All gone…except for the ga-billion seeds in the soil waiting to germinate.
